VCU Police on Sunday, Dec. 1 reported an attempted abduction that occurred on the 300 block of Hancock Street. A follow-up email sent to the VCU community on Monday afternoon says the incident did not happen.

An investigation by the VCU Police Department found the alleged incident to be “unfounded,” and sent the updated alert to remove remaining fear in the community, according to the alert message.

The victim reported being in an alley entrance in Hancock Street when a man approached her asking if she was OK. The victim said the suspect grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her into a dark colored SUV.

After reviewing security camera footage and conducting interviews, the VCU PD found the victim’s story to be false, according to the alert.

A first crime alert about the incident was sent out around 8:50 p.m., about two hours after the the victim said the incident took place. Students received the updated alert message via email at approximately 3:20 p.m. today.

  1. What an elaborate story though…however, if the police have video camera evidence of nothing occurring on Hancock street, what in the world did she think she was doing by reporting such a serious crime fallaciously? Still confusing
