VCU men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart said he’d be “extremely surprised” if senior guard Troy Daniels doesn’t play at Winthrop Saturday.

The Rams 3-point marksmen went down with an ankle injury with 4:50 left in the second half against Wichita State Tuesday night going after a loose ball and landing on teammate Briante Weber.

Daniels had to be lifted off the court and helped back to the locker room not putting any weight on his right ankle.

Smart said he doesn’t think Daniels will be a “full-go” at practice Thursday, but he’s made good progress since Tuesday night. VCU did not practice Wednesday due to NCAA rules.

“I think he’s – I don’t want to say 100 percent – but there’s a high likelihood he’ll play Saturday,” Smart said.
