Photos of the day: Siegel Center gears up for start of season

With the start of the season right around the corner, the Siegel Center is gearing up for what should be another great year.

In the top photo you’ll see a Final Four memorial in place of where the old Louisville one used to be.

The bottom photo features the new club suites which are expected to be finished by the start of the season.

And a few fun facts about the Siegel Center:

– VCU defeated Louisville on the arena’s opening night 79-74 (Nov. 19, 1999).
– VCU is 150-26 overall at the Siegel Center.
– With a .852 winning percentage at the Stu, VCU has a higher home winning percentage than Duke, North Carolina, Ohio State, Arizona and Louisville to name a few. The mark is good for 13th best in the country.
– The largest crowd at a game so far came on Feb. 11, 2006 when 7,838 showed up to watch VCU defeat ODU 80-74.
– The most points scored by one individual inside the Siegel Center is 38, by Willie Taylor versus Hampton on Dec. 19, 2002.
– The most 3-pointers ever attempted inside the arena came when VCU shot an eye-popping 45 in a win over William & Mary on Feb. 19, 2003. The most treys ever made came off the hands of Taylor, when he made 15 against William & Mary on that same night.
