VCU shows true diversity

Cultural organizations gathered in the Commonwealth Ballrooms to recruit new students Wednesday evening at the Multicultural Village and Taste of Culture.

The festivities included food, games and education, as students mingled their way through different stations representing the various cultures at VCU.

Students received a “passport” with the names of the participating organizations. Once they visited all of the stations they were able to receive catered food from Elephant Thai, Jerk Pit and Little Mexico.

Games included jeopardy, musical chairs and cultural mad libs. Computer science major Syed Ahmed came not only to taste the food but to meet people from different countries. Black Student Union representative and biology pre-med major Yusra Elrayeh said the Black Student Union had a great response.

She said cultural organizations were important to unite different cultures at VCU. Psychology major Marcel Kellam was there with the Intercultural Festival, which had a giant world map on which attendants marked where they were from.

“People seem to be interested in diversity at VCU,” Kellam said as he pointed toward the multiple thumb tacks on the map.
