BASEBALL

Before Sunday’s loss to Wilmington,
VCU dropped Friday and
Saturday’s games to the Seahawks,
17-4 and 3-2. The Rams were
doomed by a 6-run first inning in
Friday’s contest while a run in the top
of the eighth gave the Seahawks what
they needed to win on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Rams added four players for
next season after the players signed
Letters of Intent to join VCU this
past week. The four players were
midfielders Meaghan Dullea (Virginia
Beach/First Colonial), Amber
Achesinski (Virginia Beach/Salem)
and Heather Hovanesian (Centreville/
Westfield) and defender Molly
Allen (Halifax, Nova Scotia/West
Halifax).

MEN’S TENNIS

Twenty-ninth-ranked VCU broke
a three-game losing streak Friday
afternoon with a 5-2 win over No.
57 William and Mary. The Tribe won
the doubles point by winning two of
three matches, then received their fi-
nal point when Alex Cojanu defeated
Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) 4-6,
6-3, 6-0 on Court 1. However, the
Rams won the remaining matches,
including a 6-2, 6-1 win by No.
98 Damien Lacombe (Perigueux,
France) over Marwan Ramadan.
VCU’s record is now 13-6.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

No. 39 VCU dropped its fourth
match out of its last five, dropping
its record to 14-4 overall after a 5-2
loss at the hands of 24th-ranked
William and Mary. After taking
the doubles point, the Tribe won
matches on Courts 6, 1 and 2 to give
the four points necessary for victory.
Highlighting the Rams’ day was
Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine),
who defeated No. 113 Klaudyna
Kasztelaniec 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

VCU took home four victories
in this past weekend’s Fred Harvey
Invitational, hosted by the
University of Richmond. Jason
Gallo (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge)
won the 100-meter dash in 10.9
seconds, the team of Gallo, Antonio
Norvell (Portsmouth/I.C. Norcom),
DeAngelo Wilson (Richmond/
Prince Edward) and Jamal Blyden
(Virginia Beach/Landstown) won
the 4×100-meter relay in 41.63
seconds, Norvell, Blyden, Donnie
Seward and Olumide Akkanni
(Chesterfield/Monacan) won the
4×400-meter relay in 3:17.22, and
Dwayne Handon (Fairfax Station/
Robinson) won the triple jump with
a 14.49-meter leap.
